The default excerpt length is 55. Excerpt itself is a little tips to make blog’s readers curious, but for more important purpose, it may help us to divide the content of blog, so, will prevent search engine detecting duplicate content. It requires some tricks to modify the excerpt length in Wordpress blog.
We should dig it deeper to wp-includes/formatting.php and find the certain line carefully. If you don’t have any experience in php language, I suggest you not to touch it.
For more flexible and safer, use wordpress plugin : Custom Excerpts also allows us to create a custom excerpt length, choose HTML tags to allow and whether to make the link nofollow or dofollow.
Read the explaination directly and also download Custom Excerpts.
